Summer Bunch: Gardens and Veggies

Let's get our Veg on!

Read: Carrot Seed by Ruth Krauss

Flannel board: Enormous Potato retold by Aubrey Davis

Craft: Carrots in the Dirt found via Pinterest from Along the Way

Need: White, orange and green paper, glue, water, dirt and paintbrushes.

  • Prior to storytime, my dear summer volunteer cut out carrot and stem shapes. We also mixed up our "mud" -- old dried-out garden soil, glue and a bit of water.
  • At storytime, at each craft seat, we placed sturdy paper, shapes, glue sticks and cups with "mud."
  • We asked the kiddos to glue their carrots as if they were growing from the ground.
  • Then when they finished, they should "bury" the carrots, with the "mud," leaving the green stems showing.

Summer Bunch: Trucks

Diggin' Trucks

Read: The Little Dump Truck by Margery Cuyler and Dig! by Andrea Zimmerman and David Clemesha

Flannel board: Pick-up Trucks found here at Storytime Sparks check it out here!

For our first Summer Bunch storytime, we will not be making a craft. Instead, I have found a "Friend" of our library that is bringing a tractor to our library for a Touch-a-Truck type storytime. So after we read a few books, the kids will have a chance to sit on the tractor ... We will take a picture and put it in a trucky frame.

Super-fun!
